The 2010 FunFest
Dates Are Being Finalized and Will Be Announced Early December

Math Science & Technology FunFest

The MSTFF is a collaborative effort between Raytheon, SciEnTeK-12, The University of Arizona, IBM, Honeywell, Pima Air & Space Museum, US Expo, local schools, and other partners to show students a real-life perspective of many diverse sciences.

Professional scientists and mathematicians use a variety of interactive and hands-on workshops to engage and stimulate the students’ inquisitive nature.
Held previously in conjunction with the Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair (SARSEF), the event is now held in the fall.  This will allow students to become inspired to do thier own science project to compete in thier own school science fairs, and at SARSEF in the spring.

Since its introduction to Tucson in 2003, the popularity and demand for field trips to the Funfest have been overwhelming. More than $10,000 is spent each year by the sponsors to pay for buses that bring in the many different school groups that attend the free event. The impacts of the Funfest are lready being realized in an increase of over 200 additional Science Fair projects being entered in SARSEF annually, teachers reserving their trip to the  Funfest months in advance, and in many other immeasurable ways. Who would have thought math and science could be this fun?

The Director, Sharon O'Neal, is a Board member and has been very proactive and dedicated to reaching out to school age children in the Tucson community to foster a better

understanding and appreciation for the math and science disciplines. Five years ago, she created and established the Math Science and Technology Funfest (MSTFF) in Tucson. The Funfest, as it is commonly called, began as a small science festival at a local elementary school in 2002.

The incredible success of the festival led to the development of the current event that is open to the entire Tucson community and held annually at the Tucson Convention Center. Over 300 professional scientists and engineers from a large range of technology fields now come together to host more than seven thousand students, teachers and parents over the course of the three day event.
